Other Leather Boot Treatment Options
Leather boots can also be treated with Nikwax, Aqueous Nikwax, Hydrobloc, Grangers G-wax or other leather care products before use (though always remember to refer to the manufacturers' information for details). When treating boots, remember that repeated light applications are better than one heavy application.
After use wash your boots to remove any mud, stones, or old wax, and allow them to dry at room temperature. Never force dry boots near a fire or other heat source as it damages the leather and can shorten the life of the boot. To speed dry, remove the insoles and stuff the boots with newspaper, and change regularly as it becomes wet. When the boots are completely dry and clean, apply wax (if necessary) and store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated place. If waxing damp boots (for instance on a multi-day walk) only use Aqueous Nikwax - no other product will be absorbed into the leather of damp boots.
